Vintage Lacquered Shishi Lion Head Dance Mask
Lion mask used as part of the shishi-mai dance often used to celebrate the Buddha's birthday and the new year.
The lacquer work appears similar to Negoro, a style where red lacquer is applied over layers of black lacquer, so as the piece ages, a black patina appears through the red lacquer. The shroud is torn where it meets the mask but could be repaired.
