



Sakiori Shikimono Kotatsu Rug
Sakiori 裂織 blanket. Sakiori, to tear and weave, is a traditional form of textile recycling. When cloth is beyond almost any other use it can be torn into strips and re-woven into sakiori panels. This piece was made to surround a sunken hearth upon which a kotatsu table would have been placed. Another Kotatsu covering blanket would then trap the heat while friends and family could sit around the table to keep warm.
