Spectacular two section isho dansu (clothing chest) from the town of Yahata on Sado Island, Niigata Prefecture, Japan. Yahata clothing chests are known for their ornate hand forged iron hardware and larger size.  The details of the ironwork show an abundance of fortuitous symbols including: crane, tortoise, lucky gods, pine, plum and bamboo, moneybags etc.   These indicate the chest was originally a wedding chest.  There is plenty of room to accommodate a modern American's clothing storage needs, while not losing the the stunning look of a Meiji Era tansu. Japanese antique furniture.
