






Japanese Kai-Awase Indigo Tsutsugaki Furoshiki
Hand sewn cotton indigo dyed furoshiki 風呂敷 (wrapping cloth). Tsutsugaki 筒描 (resist dyed technique) was used to create the images. Features imagery of a Kai-Awase set, a game involving pairing shells with matching pictures within them. A Kai-Awase set was an expensive item to own, so its presence on this furoshiki serves as inspiration for prosperity. This piece was mounted as a wall piece at one time and there is inconstant patina on the face as can be seen in the image. Also a corner is cut off and there are some spots of adhesive on the edges also visible in the detail images. .
