Kasuri is the Japanese style of ikat, where the threads of the material are resist-dyed before being woven. This piece is specifically e-gasuri (picture kasuri) as the image created is recognizable. This process was first practiced in the 12th Century.  This is an exceptional example of the dyers work.    The character here are for Daikichi, Abundance  of Luck.
