Setsubun Onigainozu - Hanging Scroll Painting of Setsubun Cermeony

Setsubun is a practice that dates back to the Muromachi era. On the last day before Spring in the old Japanese calendar, usually one of the first days of February, Samurai families would throw roasted soybeans out of the home's doors to rid the house of the evil and misfortune of the past year.
  • Ink and color on Silk
  • Silk Brocade border
  • Mid Edo
  • (Art) 29.5" x 10.5" (length, width)
  • (Mounting) 60" x 15.25" (length, width)
