大眉 Taibi

Craftsman: 吉賀 大眉 Yoshitaka Taibi (1915 - 1991)

When Taibi was young , Hagi ware was not widely recognized as a work of art in the pottery world, and was mostly considered a craft or commercial product made “as a hobby. “ Questioning this situation, Taibi enrolled in the Tokyo School of Fine Arts (now Tokyo University of the Arts) to study sculpture and became a disciple of the potter Hajime Kato. Upon returning to Hagi, Omaya dedicated himself to pottery making, pursuing “a beauty of pottery that transcends tradition” and “a concept that is not bound by tradition alone,” and energetically exhibited his works at art exhibitions.
